Why Blackjack Card Counting doesn't work Online

When people dream of being a professional gambler, they often think of blackjack card counting. After all, the majority of advantage casino players are card counters, and they're often glamorized by movies and TV shows.

It's pretty apparent that card counting works in brick and mortar casinos - or else why would casino security be kicking successful blackjack players out? But what about trying to count cards at an online casino? It would be cheaper because no travel costs are involved, and you wouldn't have to worry about being thrown out if successful. Obviously, this concept warrants a further look since it could make you a lot of money.

Shuffle up and Deal

Card counters make their money by being able to track the deck and make larger wagers when things are in their favor. But counters need to see at least several decks dealt from a blackjack shoe before they can confidently tell when there's an advantage present.

Unfortunately, this isn't possible in online blackjack because the software automatically "shuffles" the deck after every hand. To put it another way, the random number generator (RNG) that determines cards just doesn't make card counting an option.

Low House Edge

While it may be a little disappointing that you can't count cards in online blackjack, you shouldn't ignore the game. In fact, you can take advantage of a really low house edge by playing internet blackjack.

At worst, you should be dealing with a 0.5% casino edge - provided perfect basic blackjack strategy is used. Some casinos even give you an opportunity to lower the house advantage to 0.4% or 0.3% if really favorable rules are present.

Keeping all of this in mind, you have a pretty good chance to earn short-term profits by playing online blackjack. Just make sure that you use good strategy while doing so.
